When the LG G5 arrived this year, it quickly stole the headlines thanks to its modular design. However, it will have to beat other popular metal-bodied phones like the HTC One M9 if it wants to be successful. This is how these two devices compare.

Design

At first glance, it is easy to mistake the G5 as yet another boring metal-bodied phone. However, it is soon apparent that the device has no antenna lines on its back panel and it has a slot for modules that can be quickly added onto it. Currently, there are two modules available for the device, one which has an extra battery and controls for the camera and another which brings a Hi Fi audio player. As for colors, the device comes in gold, silver, titan and pink ,and it has a fingerprint sensor on its back. On the One M9, there is no fingerprint sensor but it has a beautiful metal body with an attractive polish. In terms of colors, the device from HTC comes in gold, pink, gray, a silver/rose gold combination and finally, a gold/pink combination.

Display

Here, the G5 again has an advantage as it comes with an Always-on display that shows notifications, time and date, even when the phone is not being used. In terms of display size and quality, the G5 has an IPS LCD version measuring 5.3 inches with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 554 pixels per inch. On the One M9 is a Super LCD3 screen measuring 5.0 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 441 pixels per inch.

Hardware

Onboard the G5 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset coupled with a quad-core CPU and an Adreno 530 GPU. As for the One M9, it has the older Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, coupled with an octa-core PU and an Adreno 430 GPU.

Memory

There are memory slots on each of these devices and each can support up to 200 GB. As for RAM, the One M9 has 3 GB and the LG G5 either has 3 GB or 4 GB.

Camera

Two cameras are present at the rear of the LG G5--a 16-megapixel and an 8-megapixel version. On the other hand, the One M9 has a 20-megapixel version.

Price

The LG G5 could be priced at $750 unlocked while the HTC One M9 can be bought for $199 with a two-year contract.
