Rumors and news about the upcoming Nintendo NX console are heating up and have pointed toward it releasing this year. However, on the heels of a possible release date for the console come leaked images of its controller.

Forbes reporting on an image that appears to be of a Nintendo NX controller brands it as something that could have been created by Photoshop. It then adds that it is not happy with the features and design of the controller as Nintendo should not be experimenting too much with the peripherals. However, it goes on to state that there are enough genuine elements in the image, in spite of changes being Photoshopped into it. This points to the controller actually being in existence and coming with a touch screen.

The other features seen on the controller include an oval body and a white cable leading to a power source or console. As for the major element on the controller, it is a touch screen that is likely going to be offered up as an interface to gamers. On top of the oval controller are two sticks that can be maneuvered by gamers with their thumbs.

Many were quick to deride the design of this new controller, but others pointed out that it should be taken lightly as there is no indication that Nintendo actually plans to release it with the Nintendo NX console. Others are meanwhile hoping that Nintendo will release a console with traditional design and it will have enough power to fill the void left when the Wii U leaves the market.

Popular Science meanwhile has noted that the Nintendo NX is on track to release this year. It also indicates that Nintendo is planning to stop the production of the Wii U console this year, and soon after this happens, the NX console will launch and possibly come with support for virtual reality games.
