Oklahoma City Thunder trade rumors 2016: Monta Ellis much needed help for Russell Westbrook?

All-Star Russell Westbrook may have a new partner if the Oklahoma City Thunder consider a suggested deal with the Indiana Pacers that will get them veteran guard Monta Ellis.

A duo that features Westbrook and Ellis will be huge for the Thunder who are aiming to remain contenders even after Kevin Durant left in free agency. Both are aggressive players and are potent scorers. Their backcourt tandem could spell doom to other teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

In a potential trade, the Thunder are shipping to Indiana rookie Domantas Sabonis, Kyle Singler and Mitch McGary to acquire Ellis.

As mentioned, Ellis is a great scorer and he has been since after his rookie year during the 2005-06 season. Unfortunately last season, his first year with the Pacers, the production went down for him.

In 81 games (all starts), Ellis averaged 13.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists, with 1.9 steals per outing. Aside from his scoring, which is the second-lowest in his career, he had decent numbers. But his offense is what he is known for, which is why the drop in that aspect of his game is noticeable.

With the Thunder, Ellis can regain his old form as an offensive juggernaut because aside from Westbrook, and maybe Victor Oladipo, there are no other prolific scorers in the squad. The 30-year-old will join the two and be a top offensive option for the team.

There is a chance the Thunder entertain this idea since their main goal now is to remain competitive by surrounding Westbrook with a talented supporting unit. Ellis will help towards the fulfillment of that goal. They might need to sacrifice three guys but all of them are yet to prove their worth to the franchise.

The toughest one to let go is Sabonis who was selected 11th overall by the Thunder in this year's draft.
