Oklahoma City Thunder trade rumors 2016: Nazr Mohammed returns!

The Oklahoma City Thunder are ramping up preparations for the postseason wars, adding a veteran big man in Nazr Mohammed to the fold.

Mohammed is not a new face to the Thunder, someone who played with the ball club back in back in the 2011–12 season. Even though he isn't a dramatic addition to the cause of the Thunder, he does bring experience and toughness which should be good for the young players in the lineup.

Mohammed last played with the Chicago Bulls (2012–15) and actually retired in October of last year. The 38-year-old center had a change of heart recently and will now be back in harness with the Thunder.

The Thunder were on the prowl for available players in the market, looking at the bought out players and National Basketball Association Development League (NBA D-League) players who could improve their lineup. In the end, general manager opted to go for a veteran who could also be a key figure in the locker room.

Aside from the experience, it will be interesting to see what Mohammed can bring to the Thunder. He didn't exactly have a last stint with the Chicago Bulls last season.

The 6-foot-10-inch center was only able to put up an average of 1.2 points and 1.7 rebounds in 5.6 minutes of action last season, not that significant that would make the Thunder better.

He could be the Thunder's insurance just in case though, especially if one of the regular big men fall to the injury bug.

The Thunder are currently at third spot in the Western Conference with a 42–20 win–loss record and are likely to stay there moving forward. Their nearest threat comes from the Los Angeles Clippers who are not far behind with a 40–21 card.

Seeing though how the charges of coach Doc Rivers have been struggling, only a big run from the Clips can dislodge the Thunder headed into the NBA playoffs.
