There have been a set of conflicting rumors about the Oppo R9 smartphone but the latest one which focused on the device passing through TENAA brought the most amount of confusion. It importantly threw into doubt the chipset that would be arriving on the device. However, in other news, teasers have indicated that it could come with the VOOC fast charging technology created by Oppo.

Reporting on the passage of the Oppo RP and its bigger sibling the Oppo R9 Plus through the Chinese certification site TENAA, GSMArena states that the listings showed clearly that these two devices would come with mid-range hardware. Importantly, the Oppo RP, which was seen on the website along with images, was seen with an octa-core CPU clocked at 1.95 GHz.

This particular processor is definitely not the Snapdragon 820 which has a quad-core CPU and industry analysts believe that instead of a chipset from Qualcomm, the Oppo RP could have a version from MediaTek. Many even believe the chipset could be a MediaTek Helio P10 version after taking into account the clock speed seen on the TENAA listing. As for the other hardware on the device, the listing revealed it would come with 4 GB RAM and there would be 32 GB onboard storage along with a 5.5-inch display and a 2,850 mAh battery.

Meanwhile, official teasers revealed for the Oppo R9 point towards the device coming with the VOOC fast charging technology. Previous rumors had indicated that the Oppo R9 could have flagship level hardware including the new Snapdragon 820 chipset. As for the Oppo R9 Plus, it has an octa-core chipset that is clocked at 1.8 GHz and it is widely expected to be the Snapdragon 652 from Qualcomm.

Oppo has indicated that it will be launching the R9 on March 17 and the R9 Plus, which has a 6-inch display, is also expected to arrive on the same day. However, with both these devices not being flagships, many expect Oppo to release another high end device this year.
