Samsung Galaxy S8 release date, specs rumors: S8 will not have flat-screen variant; Samsung to make Edge a flagship model

The Samsung Galaxy S7 has not even reached its sixth month yet but rumors on the next phone in the Galaxy S series are starting to spread. The latest news surrounding the Galaxy S8 is that it will only have a curved-edge variant.
Word has it that Samsung will soon scrap the flat screen variant in favor of the curved display design. This will then become the flagship design for the future models in the S series. The Edge variant of the S series of phones are doing extremely well that Samsung hinted of it becoming the face of the model.
During an interview in New York last week, Samsung Mobile president Koh Dong-jin said, "Samsung has considered that it would make the edge display as the identity of the Galaxy S smartphone lineup …" Although Samsung didn't explicitly confirm anything about the Edge variant being the flagship, Dong-jin's statement implies that it's the case.
After all, this plan has already been started considering that the recently launched Galaxy Note 7 is available with a curved screen only. But according to a market watcher who told Korea Herald, Samsung will not immediately ditch flat-screens. Instead, it will see how well-received the curved-screen-only Note 7 is to determine if the Edge model is the right path to choose.
Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy S8 specs are also subjects of the rumor mill nowadays. In a separate report, it was mentioned that the next phablet will likely come with a 5.5-inch screen size coupled with a 4K resolution. It is also rumored that the device will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 processor – one that does not yet exist in the market. It is expected that the 830 will give a boost to the device's power and efficiency.
Not much is known about the S8 yet but it is expected that the rumors will pile up more in the coming months, especially when it's predicted that the device will be released in February 2017.
