Tesla Model 3 release, specs news: Elon Musk confirms Ludicrous Mode for the affordable electric sedan

(Tesla Motors)Ludicrous Mode will be available to the Model 3.

Although the Tesla Model 3 has already been unveiled, more details about the most affordable electric car continue to emerge. Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk has promised car enthusiasts that more information about the Model 3 will be released over the coming months.

Just a few days ago on Twitter, Musk was asked about whether the Ludicrous Mode would be made available to the Model 3. Musk replied with "of course." Unfortunately, Musk did not provide more specific details about it.

With Ludicrous Mode on the current Model S, the electric car is able to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds. Will the Model 3, equipped with a smaller battery pack, be able to attain impressive numbers as well? The standard model is currently rated to accomplish the feat in under 6 seconds.

The Tesla Model 3 comes with a base price of $35,000. However, future owners interested in the Ludicrous Mode should expect to pay about $10,000 more. While the standard model comes with an affordable price tag, it is likely that customers will pony up more cash to avail of more exclusive upgrades and features. Hopefully, it will still be less than the $70,000 base price of the Model S electric sedan. Electric car owners are also eligible to receive tax incentives, depending on their home state.

Tesla has yet to release the full list of technical specifications for the Model 3. Reports suggest that Tesla will have another unveiling event closer to the electric car's official launch. Previously revealed specs include a rear wheel drive system, the Autopilot hardware, and Supercharging capability.

Prospective customers can reserve their own Model 3 for just $1,000. However, customers will have to wait for quite a while before getting their own vehicle. Production isn't scheduled to start until late 2017 and first deliveries will commence sometime after that.

More news and updates on Tesla Model 3 should be released soon.
