"The Vampire Diaries" will have its Mystic Falls version of "Where's Waldo," only everyone will be looking for Stefan.

A lot of fans are undoubtedly still reeling from the previous episode doled that saw Damon (Ian Somerhalder) discovering his brother Stefan (Paul Wesley) dead, his soul sent back into the hell stone by Rayna (Leslie-Anne Huff). But the vampire huntress got her comeuppance of sorts when Nora (Scarlett Byrne) and Mary Lou (Teressa Liane) decided to leave the world together. The couple spent their last moments casting a spell that would destroy the Phoenix Stone. The resulting explosion meant their end as well as the destruction of Rayna's sword.

The consequences of the Phoenix Stone being destroyed will be explored in the upcoming episode as the souls trapped in the stone return to the world. According to a Carter Matt synopsis for episode 17, "I Went to the Woods," Stefan wakes up to a possibly fatal situation and can only rely on his instincts to survive. He embarks on "a journey of survival while forced to confront a lifetime of irreversible damage Damon has done to their relationship." Meanwhile, Damon, Matt (Zach Roerig), and Valerie (Elizabeth Blackmore) race against time to find Stefan before Rayna does. The huntress is apparently searching for Stefan, too, as she discovered a new threat is on the horizon.

The trailer for the upcoming episode shows Damon struggling to keep his "brother" in tow. The sneak peek starts with the two brothers in the car, with Stefan alive and well. Or as alive and well as someone who's in the wrong body is. The first indication that something is wrong happens when Stefan asks who Damon is, much to the surprise and confusion of the older Salvatore brother.

Stefan's friends also realize that something is amiss, as Alaric (Matt Davis) is shown telling Valerie that "that is not Stefan" and that they don't know who that person is. The next shot shows Stefan being arrested, but his reflection in the car's mirror shows a different face. Meanwhile, the real Stefan appears to be in the woods. Valerie advises that they need to keep the Fake Stefan close as they're going to need his body.

The Fake Stefan is seen bleeding dry every customer in one shop, as Damon complains to his friends that he doesn't want to spend the rest of his life "baby sitting a cheap knockoff of my brother." Aside from killing people at random, the Fake Stefan is also shown partying hard and preening at a mirror. He ominously states that he has no plans of giving up the body he has now. The clip ends with Damon trying to discourage him by hitting on the Fake Stefan's vanity and telling him the hair needs "a tremendous amount of maintenance."

It seems Stefan's troubles are far from over, as he has to reportedly race against time to survive, while someone else inhabits his body. Hopefully, the Fake Stefan will be dispatched off sooner rather than later.

The CW will air episode 17 of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 on Apr. 8.
