'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 episode 5 spoilers: Stefan gives up on Damon?

Stefan (Paul Wesley) comes to a decision that he knows could make his brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder) hate him forever in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 episode 5.
Damon is deep into Siren mind control and he continues to put the lives of the people dear to him in danger. Stefan, as usual, goes to lengths to save his brother but, after the death of Tyler (Michael Trevino) and almost killing the father of Matt (Zach Roerig), he might have to resort to drastic measures.
The episode is titled "Coming Home Was a Mistake" and the synopsis describes Damon as spiraling down a dangerous path of self-destruction. Still, Stefan refuses to give up on his brother but, as they look for ways to free him from the siren's control, he makes a gut-wrenching decision that threatens their relationship. Furthermore, the synopsis reveals that Bonnie (Kat Graham) will get advice from Caroline (Candice King) on how she could get through Enzo (Michael Malarkey) who is not that deep into mind control as Damon is. Matt, meanwhile, will try to discover what the mysterious box of messages he received means.
The upcoming episode seems like a very emotional one with all the characters remembering what matters most to them at the end of it. The trailer shows Stefan telling Alaric (Matthew Davis) they have to put an end to what has been happening. Another scene shows them at a funeral, and Damon appears and threatens to take them down one by one.
Stefan is also shown closing a coffin, which could suggest he will put Damon in a temporary state of death. One of the photos also shows Stefan and Caroline in a sweet moment, while another shows Alaric who seems to be looking on.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 airs Fridays at 8 p.m. on The CW network.
