UFC rumors: Daniel Cormier tagged as heel against Jon Jones

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has been used to being the fan-favorite but somehow he finds himself on the other side of the fence during the press event for UFC 197.
Cormier will face a returning Jon "Bones" Jones on April 23 in a much awaited rematch but got the worse end of boos at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas recently.
It is a scenario that Cormier is not used to. He used to be the good guy and now, he is wondering why he suddenly earned the backlash from fans eager to see if he can defend his title and avenge a previous loss he sustained from "Bones" at UFC 182.
Obviously, Cormier was hurt (a bit) by the reception and perplexed. However, as he pondered on what he could have possibly done to earn the backlash, he figured out that it was because Jones was returning from a year-long absence and likely the reason why many were cheering the former UFC champion.
To recall, Jones has been hit by off-ring problems tied up to drug-related and hit-and-run issues last year. That led to his indefinite suspension as Jones tried to get his life back together by doing charity work and speaking to children.
His good behavior was cited and paved the way for a possible return. With the changes shown by Jones, is he a changed man?
Cormier isn't completely buying it and doubts his sincerity. That includes mentioning a verbal spat both had backstage where Jones called him something expletive via TMZ. In short, the light heavyweight champion is trying to reveal the real color of Jones and bats that everyone is being conned by Jones — again.
Whether fans and press people will believe that remains to be seen. However, the best way for Cormier to gain admiration is perhaps to clam up and prove himself inside the Octagon.
Continuing to use words will not work as it only makes him look like a "boy who cried wolf." Hopefully all that changes once they get it on this April 23.
