Xiaomi lifts the covers on yet another new device with the announcement of the Xiaomi Mi Max. The new device offers a noticeable 6.44 inch display whose actual display resolution has been conspicuously kept mum.

The new variant will come in three types, starting with the basic one sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 SoC, 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. This is followed by a Mi Max carrying a Snapdragon 652 chip, 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, and the high-end version that will offer almost the same specs as the second variant though it will have 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of memory.

Common features to expect for the Xiaomi Mi Max include a 16 MP main camera, a rear-situated fingerprint sensor, dual SIM support, infrared sensors and a 4,850 mAh battery. There is no word on how long the battery could last, but with the high mAh, it should be more than enough to last a day.

As far as pricing is concerned, the base model will reportedly cost about $210, with the high-end model pegged for about $306. Like most of its previous devices, the Xiaomi Mi Max is expected to be another good device to consider except that its availability may be limited to China at least for now.

Debuting alongside the Xiaomi Mi Max is the MIUI 8, the company's own Android-based operating system. The new OS carries a bunch of new features that include a power-saving mode, limiting which apps that start upon launch, fraud and spam security and multi-window capability.

Beta registration for the MIUI 8 will start on May 16, with the actual beta testing happening on June 1. A developer ROM is expected to come out by June 17 and will reportedly be made available to previous Xiaomi devices such as the Mi 2/2S/3/4/4C/4S/5/Max, plus all Redmi and Mi Note.
