2016 Tokyo Auto Salon news: Mazda to introduce five concept vehicles including the Miata and CX-3 Racing Concepts
Mazda is preparing to unveil five sporty concept vehicles during the 2016 Tokyo Auto Salon. The track-focused concept vehicles are based on Mazda's existing lineup and were developed by Mazda's tuning firm, Mazdaspeed.
Mazda will introduce three Racing Concepts based on the Mazda CX-3 crossover, Mazda MX-5 RS roadster and the Mazda 6 saloon.
The Mazda MX-5 Miata RS Racing Concept features a glossy black exterior color with red accents on the front spoiler, side skirts, rear bumper and rear diffuser. It comes with a Mazdaspeed aero kit, a new dual exhaust system and large black alloy wheels. The roadster also features a height-adjustable suspension.
Inside the cabin, the roadster has been given Recaro sports seats with leather and Alcantara upholstery. The interiors also feature red piping on the leather sets and red brake calipers.
Like the MX-5 Miata RS Racing Concept, the CX-3 Racing Concept also comes with a Mazdaspeed aero kit. It looks sleek with its glossy black exterior color and red accents. The crossover comes with a lowered suspension.
Inside, the CX-3 Racing Concept comes with Alcantara seat upholstery and inserts on the dashboard and door panels. There is also red accent stitching throughout the cabin.
Finally, the Mazda 6 Racing Concept, known as the Atenza in Japan, features all-black exteriors and interiors. The saloon comes with a mild aero kit, silver-trimmed black wheels and Mazdaspeed seats.
Apart from the three Racing Concepts, Mazda will also introduce two racecars during the Tokyo Auto Salon.
The MX-5 Miata NR-A comes with racing livery and a white, red, silver and black color scheme. It comes with racing bucket seats, Takata seatbelts, a tow hook and a roll cage. On the other hand, the Mazda 2, known as the Demio 15MB in Japan, comes with a stripped-out cabin and equipped with a roll cage and rally wheels with mud flaps.
More specific information including powertrains will be revealed during its official presentation during the 2016 Tokyo Auto Salon. The trade show is scheduled to take place on Jan. 15 to 17 at the Makuhari Messe International Convention Complex in Chiba, Japan.
