Android Lollipop not arriving on DROID Ultra/Mini/Maxx

There is little doubt that users of DROID phones like the Ultra, Maxx and Mini are going to be disappointed as it has been announced that these devices will not be receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop. However, even as this announcement was making its way onto the Internet, Motorola tried to assuage the feelings of its customers by offering discounts.
The news that Motorola was not going to be bringing the Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system to these three devices was made recently. As soon as the announcement was made on a Google page by David Schuster, who works as the Senior Director of Software Product Management for Motorola, it was picked up by a number of websites. People who want the update will reportedly have to upgrade their DROID devices or install ROMs from third parties created for the Ultra, Maxx and Mini.
This is going to be a tough choice for customers who have invested in these three devices and who were waiting for the arrival of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Importantly, Lollipop is not the latest version of Android and it was released in 2014 after which Android 6.0 Marshmallow was released in 2015. However, the rollout of Lollipop has proceeded very slowly and it is expected that many more devices will simply skip the update and move directly to Marshmallow instead.
Also, the DROID Ultra, Maxx and Mini are going to be two years old by August of this year and it is not suspiring that Motorola is looking to move people using them to newer devices. Motorola also seemed to hint that it wanted people to invest in new DROID devices such as the Droid Turbo 2 and Droid Maxx 2, and is currently offering them at a discounted price of $524 and $334, respectively. These two devices were released last year and currently, they run the 5.1.1 version of Android (Lollipop) and an upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow is planned for them.
Motorola has previously announced that the DROID Ultra, Maxx and Mini would be upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop but it provided no reason for changing its plans recently.
