'Extant' season 3 news: Executive producer Elizabeth Kruger says a fan favorite might return for season 3

Despite, the partnership between an A-list movie star and an iconic film producer, CBS' science fiction drama, "Extant," debuted last year to paltry ratings. While the show has garnered favorable reviews from critics, it seems like audiences remained lukewarm toward the series.
Since then, several new characters have been added to its cast including household name, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. In addition, a major overhaul with its overall feel was put in place at the onset of the second season.
In a recent interview with Mickey Fisher, the creator of the show, he explained why the changes on the show came about. According to Fisher, the development of the second season was deeply affected by the introduction of new key people into the production of the show.
"Liz [Kruger] and [EP] Craig [Shapiro] came on at the beginning of the season, and we talked over some big ideas and themes. There were a few things going into it that we wanted to do, but we added writers and buckled down for a couple of really intense weeks. We plotted out the whole season as a crew," said Fisher.
The second season finale aired merely days ago. According to The Hollywood Reporter, season two was a stronger run for the program, despite a slight dip in the show's finale ratings. CBS, however, has yet to announce the renewal of the program. But despite it being in limbo, Elizabeth Kruger, the show's new executive producer, has already revealed a few details about season three and according to her, Lucy, a fan-favorite, might still make an appearance on season three.
"I think about [Mickey and Craig and I] sitting in a room last November with white boards and coming up with this character of Lucy and what we were going to do with her. She proceeded to exceed our expectations."
