The iPad Pro may have taken center stage and effortlessly overshadowed other devices when it was announced, but the smaller iPad Mini 4 has started capturing the attention of many tablet users as well. Here is how it compares to the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0, which was released by Samsung this year.

Design

There is very little similarity between the devices, but Samsung has upped its game this year and now the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 comes encased in a metal frame, though its rear is still made of plastic with a textured finish. It has a fingerprint scanner integrated into its home button and is extremely thin measuring only 5.6 mm compared to the 6.1 mm of its competitor, the iPad Mini 4. As for the device from Apple, it has a better build as it has a metal unibody and rounded edges, which give it a premium appearance. It also has a fingerprint sensor. As for colors, it has three options, gray, gold and silver. The device from Samsung comes in white, black and gold.

Display

There is an IPS LCD screen on the iPad Mini 4 and it measures 7.9 inches with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and a density of 324 pixels per inch. As for the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0, it has a slightly bigger 8.0-inch super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and a density of 320 pixels per inch.

Specs

There is an Apple A8 chipset on the iPad Mini 4, which is coupled with a dual core CPU clocked at 1.5 GHz. As for the chipset of the device from Samsung, it is an Exynos 7 version, coupled with an octa-core CPU comprised of four cores clocked at 1.9 GHz and four cores clocked at 1.3 GHz.

Memory

There is no memory slot on the iPad Mini 4. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0, however, has a version which can be used to add up to 128 GB of external storage. As for RAM, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 has 3 GB and its competitor has 2 GB.

Price

There is a $399 price tag on the 32 GB model of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 while the 16 GB iPad Mini 4 costs $399.
