NBA Free Agency trade rumors: San Antonio Spurs is another team expected to pursue Kevin Durant

The San Antonio Spurs made a big splash last year when they got LaMarcus Aldridge to join the fold but it seems that the Western Conference powerhouse isn't done yet.

With Tim Duncan expected to announce his retirement soon, the Spurs will be in need of another player to pick up the slack. But the problem here is if they have the salary cap space to hook up Durant who is likely to receive humongous offers and ridiculous deals from most NBA teams.

One thing going for the Spurs is their success. They have one of the finest coaches in the NBA today in Gregg Popovich and that alone could account for improvements as far as Durant's career is concerned.

Other than that, the dream of winning an NBA title is well within reach. The Spurs are five-time NBA champions and have been known to take care of their players even during their prime. That list includes Duncan and Manu Ginobili, two players who could retire by the end of this season.

Making it easy for the Spurs is the fact that the salary cap could offer them some allowance. The Spurs will have $84 million in salary commitments next season which means that they have some more to shell out with the impending cap to hit $89 million by next season.

The money angle seems awry but the opportunity is something befuddling.

Against other teams expected to make a pitch at Durant like the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Houston Rockets and the Oklahoma City Thunder, it will be interesting if the former NBA MVP considers moving to San Antonio.

Moving may be a long shot with most believing that he will likely stay on with the Thunder for now. However, weirder things have happened in the past so like most teams eyeing Durant, the Spurs are considered in equal footing as well.
