Nexus 6P vs Huawei Mate 8: Mate 8 is bigger and also costlier

With the Nexus 6P becoming a strong offering from Google, it remains to be seen if other metal bodied devices will arrive to challenge it. Here is how the recently released Huawei Mate 8 faces off against the device the Huawei made for Google.

Design

The fact that Huawei manufactured both these smartphones means that they have similar full metal bodies. However, the Nexus 6P has a ridge along its back that is covered with glass and it houses the camera. Importantly, it protrudes from the rest of the device. Also on the back of this smartphone is a fingerprint scanner and as for colors, the device comes in frost, aluminum and graphite. As for its competitor the Mate 8 it has a sleeker metal body but its fingerprint scanner too is at the rear. Coming to colors, customers can choose from gold, silver, brown and gray.

Display

The Mate 8 has a distinct size advantage as its LCD screen measures 6.0 inches and has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 368 pixels per inch. On the Nexus 6P is an AMOLED display measuring 5.7 inches and it has a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and density of 518 pixels per inch.

Specs

Onboard the Nexus 6P is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, coupled with an octa-core CPU and an Adreno 430 GPU. As for the Mate 8, it is faster and comes with a HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset, coupled with an octa core CPU and a Mali-T880 MP4 GPU.

Memory

Here, the device from Google has no memory slot, while the Mate 8 has one that supports up to 128 GB of external storage. As for RAM, the Mate 8 has either 3 GB or 4 GB and the Nexus 6P has 3 GB.

Battery

A huge 4000 mAh battery is on the Mate 8 while the Nexus 6P has a smaller 3450 mAh version.

Camera

There is a 12-megapixel camera on the Nexus 6P and it is well rated compared to the 16-megapixel version on its competitor.

Price

In terms of price, the Mate 8 is costlier and has a price tag of $643 unlocked, while there is a $500 price tag on the Nexus 6P.
