Huawei Mate 8 vs iPhone 6s: Phones compared in terms of design, specs and price

When Huawei launched the Mate 8 recently, the big screened device reinforced the company's commitment to creating phablets, but it is going to get a lot of competition from the smaller iPhone 6s which has a similar metal body. To check how these two devices compare, read on.

Design

Comparing design, it is clear that both devices have similar strengths. The Mate 8, for instance, has a metal body and rounded edges, but it is clearly much bigger than its competitor. As for its fingerprint scanner, it is positioned on the back panel. The device comes in gold, silver, gray and brown. The iPhone 6s, on the other hand, also has a metal body and is often considered to have the very best design when it comes to smartphones. It has rounded edges and a home button, which also serves as its fingerprint scanner. As for colors, it has four options: gray, silver, gold and the popular rose gold.

Display

When it comes to display size, the iPhone 6s is overwhelmed by the huge Mate 8, which has an LCD screen measuring 6.0 inches with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 368 pixels per inch. Meanwhile, the iPhone 6s has a smaller LCD display measuring 4.7 inches with a resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels and a density of 326 pixels per inch. The device, however, has 3D Touch technology, which can sense the pressure being applied on the screen. 

Specs

There is an Apple A9 chipset on the iPhone 6s and it is coupled with a dual-core CPU and a PowerVR GT7600 GPU. On the device from Huawei is a HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset, and it is coupled with an octa-core CPU and a Mali-T880 MP4 GPU. 

Memory

As with most other devices from Apple, there is no memory slot on the iPhone 6s while the version on the Mate 8 supports the addition of up to 128 GB. When it comes to RAM, the Mate 8 is well ahead with either 3 GB or 4 GB while the iPhone 6s has 2 GB. 

Camera

The 12-megapixel camera on the iPhone 6s is one of the best and it ranked well on the DxOMark site but the 16-megapixel camera on the Mate 8, which has OIS, does not have any ranking. 

Price

When it comes to price, the iPhone 6s costs $199 with a two year contract and the Huawei Mate 8 costs $580 unlocked.
