As the Huawei Mate S became the first phone to release with Force Touch technology it managed to steal attention away from the iPhone. However, this year cheaper devices are going to provide it with more competition and one among them is the Honor 5X and here is how it compares to the Mate S.

Design

Both these devices are manufactured by Huawei so they come with a several similar design elements. On the Mate S is a metal body with rounded edges and there is a fingerprint scanner positioned at its rear. When it comes to colors the device has three options gold, champagne and gray. On the Honor 5X is a similar metal body with a brushed metal finish layered on top and the fingerprint scanner is on the rear panel. Coming to colors, the Honor 5X comes in gold, black and white.

Display

Here the Mate S benefits from having an AMOLED screen which measures 5.5 inches and has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and density of 401 pixels per inch. As for the Honor 5X it has an IPS LCD screen measuring 5.5 inches and it has a similar resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and density of 401 pixels per inch. Additionally, users can opt to buy a model of the Mate S with Force Touch technology which can sense the amount of pressure being applied by the user's fingertips on the display.

Specs

When it comes to hardware, the Mate S takes the lead as it has a HiSilicon Kirin 935 chipset coupled with an octa-core CPU and a Mali-T628 MP4 GPU. As for the Honor 5X it has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chipset, coupled with an octa-core CPU and an Adreno 405 GPU.

Memory

Both these sibling devices have memory slots and each can support up to 128 GB. As for RAM, the Mate S has 3 GB and the Honor 5X with 16 GB onboard storage comes with 2 GB and its 32 GB model has 3 GB.

Camera

There is a 13 megapixel camera on the Honor 5X while the Mate S has a 13 megapixel version with optical image stabilization.

Price

Here the Honor 5X is well and truly ahead as it is expected to launch in the United States with a $199 price tag while the Huawei Mate S has a price tag of $650 unlocked.
