Motorola Droid Turbo 2 news: release date may be just a few weeks away

Consumers are eagerly awaiting the successor to last year's impressive Droid Turbo /MOTOROLA

Earlier this year, Motorola impressed consumers with its 2015-smartphone offerings. The company released the Moto X, Moto X Play and the Moto G. However, many speculated that the Droid Turbo 2 would also be included in the company's new releases and were subsequently disappointed when it was not included in the line-up.

Interestingly though, the company had said that they had more Motorola smartphones headed to the United States later this year. Will the Droid Turbo 2 finally be unveiled later this year?

More details have begun to emerge which seem to indicate that the Droid Turbo 2 will be released sometime this year.

A leaked image released online detailed Costco's inventory for upcoming Verizon devices. The list included a "Turbo 2" which would surely refer to Motorola's Droid Turbo 2.

Earlier this year, Droid Life also revealed another image leaked by HelloMotoHK. The image showed the back cover of the rumored Droid Turbo 2. Based on the image leaked, the Droid Turbo 2 's design aesthetic appeared to be similar to Motorola's 2015 offerings. The smartphone also featured a vertical metal housing and a woven texture.

As the anniversary of the Droid Turbo approaches, we may also see the arrival of its successor.

Motorola had unveiled the Droid Turbo last September 2014 and released it by the end of October. The Droid Turbo 2 might follow a similar schedule, which means that the device may be released in the next few weeks.

There are also speculations that aside from the high-end Droid Turbo 2, a mid-range Droid Turbo Maxx 2 will also be released by the company.

Details regarding the specifications of the Droid Turbo 2 are still scarce. However, given the impressive specifications and battery life of the original Droid Turbo, its successor will no doubt impress consumers as well.

The Droid Turbo, despite being released last year, is still a strong contender for high-end smartphones in 2015.
