Although hints are here and there, the creators of the sci-fi adult animated series "Rick and Morty" has kept the release date for the third season under wraps.

"Just relax - it's our best season and worth the wait. Greatness takes time," Mike MacMahan, the sci-fi series writer, posted on Twitter. But, that was Aug. 25 of last year.

In an interview with Buzzfeed, season 3 art director Jeffrey Thompson reaffirmed MacMahan's earlier claim about the upcoming series. He stated, "When season 3 reaches the air, these episodes are the biggest and most ambitions to date."

Meanwhile, speculations of a crossover between "Rick and Morty" and "Gravity Falls" are also unfolding on social media. It should be noted that Roiland and Alex Hirsch (creator of "Gravity Falls") have been friends for a long time.

Some theories indicated that the two cartoon shows share the same universe and this is going to be the storyline in the third season of "Rick and Morty."

One of the evidences shared in the online community was in "Gravity Falls" season 2 episode 7, "Society of the Blind Eye," when Grunkle Stan lost his notepad, pen, and mug as they flew into the universe portal.

In "Rick and Morty" season 1 episode 10, "Close Rick-counters of the Rick Kind," those lost items appeared. Although, it's very easy to miss them because they were shown in a flash.

Is this what MacMahan and Thompson were referring to when they said that the next season would be the best and most ambitious?

Adding to the controversy is the mind-boggling answer which Hirsch gave during his interview with Entertainment Weekly. When he was asked about the potential crossover, he replied that that he and Roiland have always dreamed of creating an extraordinary kind of TV show.

"We started putting little Easter Eggs in our shows that sort of connected the two. Our motivation for that is primarily to freak people out and blow their minds," Hirsch said.

Since there's no official confirmation of season 3's air date yet, fans of "Rick and Morty" will just have to wait patiently.
