2017 Ford F-150 specs: EcoBoost engine and 10-speed transmission delivers best-in-class torque performance

The 2017 Ford F-150 will go on sale later this year with a new engine and transmission that will deliver better acceleration and more torque.
Ford has given the latest F-150 pickup truck a new second-generation 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine that will deliver 450 lb-ft. of torque, 30 lb-ft. more than the first-generation EcoBoost engine.
According to the press release, the 2017 F-150 will deliver best-in-class torque performance, more so since it is the only truck in its segment to offer a twin-turbo V6 gasoline engine. The engine also comes with a dual-direct and port fuel-injection system and all-new turbochargers.
The Auto Start-Stop system will also be standard for the 2017 F-150. The system shuts off the engine when vehicle is at a stop, except when towing or when in four-wheel drive mode. This helps improve driving efficiency. With decreased idle times, CO2 emissions are also reduced.
The 2017 Ford F-150's new engine will also be paired with the all-new 10-speed automatic transmission. The new transmission will deliver improved acceleration and performance compared to the previous six-speed automatic transmission. Improvements were made by using advanced materials and alloys to help save weight.
"The Ford truck team lives to serve our hardworking truck customers. The powertrain is the heart of every F-150, and together our all-new 3.5-liter EcoBoost and 10-speed transmission will give our customers better power, efficiency and confidence," said Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president for Product Development and chief technical officer.
Ford has also integrated new technologies that will help enhance the truck's driving experience. A smarter shift logic improves the tow/haul mode. All-new real-time-adaptive-shift-scheduling algorithms also help monitor the powertrain and driver-control signals ensure that the right gear is used.
The 2017 Ford F-150 will be available to purchase this fall. Pricing will be announced closer to its official launch date.
